Former Residents – Artist Residency in Provence & Luberon<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

La Maison de Beaumont is an International Artist Residency<\/a> based in the Provence & Luberon region of the South of France<\/strong>. Since the program’s opening, we have had the pleasure of welcoming talented and passionate artists from around the world who have left an indelible mark on our community. From painters and musicians to writers and poets, our former residents have gone on to achieve great things in their respective fields, and we are proud to have played a role in their creative journeys. Here are some of the artists who have called La Maison de Beaumont their home and whose work continues to inspire us.

“Since I arrived in Beaumont-de-Pertuis for the artist residency at @lamaisondebeaumont, my days have been filled with charming landscapes, lots of cheese, wine, art, and love. An immersion that uplifts the soul of any artist.<\/strong> I will never forget these beautiful days during which I met interesting people from all over the world. I was able to explore the region and discovered that many painters also lived here. I fell in love over and over again with the sunsets, which at this time of year begin after 8 p.m.\u2014an incredible light for painting<\/strong>. I continue to develop my work here, exchanging ideas with other artists. I\u2019m memorizing and recording as much as I can so that these references can appear in my art. The tranquil atmosphere provided the opportunity to focus on my work as well as meeting other creatives. And of course, the surrounding region is absolutely beautiful. “Just back from my very first artist residency \u2014 Magical days in Provence at La Maison de Beaumont.<\/strong> \ud83c\udf3f\u2728 Between walks through blooming wisteria and sunlit mornings with coffee, I finally found the space to turn years of lyrical fragments into three new songs (shared across this 3-part post). It was the first time in ages I wrote just for me \u2014 no deadlines, no briefs, just flow. “I am a multidisciplinary artist exploring themes of feminine embodiment, ancestral memory, and spiritual reclamation. My work bridges painting, writing, and ritual practice to honor the unseen and reimagine narratives of the sacred. During my time at La Maison de Beaumont, I immersed myself in the creative process<\/strong>, drawing deep inspiration from the land, history, and rhythms of slowness. “The setting here, nestled in the heart of the mountains, has truly been a sanctuary for my creative process<\/strong>. The beauty and tranquility of this place have inspired me in ways I never imagined. “I chose an art residency that was in the country side! @lamaisondebeaumont is a quiet location. I know myself, and I feel so much more creative in a less stimulating environment! I was able to come up with so many ideas, to take home and work on over the next year.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being around other creative people was a blessing ! I was in an interdisciplinary residency so there were all types of artists : Visual artists, writers, musicians, singers, etc. it was incredible to meet and chat with all sorts of creative people<\/strong>, I loved discussing ideas with them. “Hello ! I am Camille Refait, a classically trained harpist based in the South of France. We had a great time working at La Maison de Beaumont with my colleague and friend Camille Bordet. We’ve formed a classical harp and voice duo for nearly a year now, and this was a great residency during which we were able to work on a new repertoire of traditional and early music songs in an atmosphere propitious to concentration. The setting of the village in winter was very calm and soothing<\/strong>, and we had beautiful encounters with the other residents artists<\/strong>.  Thank you to all the team of La Maison de Beaumont for welcoming us and organizing this residency!”<\/em> – Camille<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The rolling hills, azure skies, and lavender fields create a place where life just is\u2014neither slow nor hurried, but present. History lingers in the air, from ancient legends to the quiet rhythm of daily life. Here, people don\u2019t overcomplicate thing<\/em>s. We can carve out a moment of pure presence, existing on the knife edge of now. Time morphed from past, present, and future into a simple existence. In this space, productivity lost meaning, replaced by the experience itself.<\/em> Ultimately, all we ever have is now. Patrick O’Brien has been a full time professional artist and illustrator since the mid-1980s. His art has appeared in magazines and newspapers, on posters and greeting cards, and even on billboards.

“My two weeks at La Maison de Beaumont have been a true breath of fresh air. I spent much of my time wandering the area, composing music in some of the most beautiful spots I\u2019ve ever seen<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I visited a few gorgeous museums nearby, each one sparking new ideas, and honestly, the whole experience has recharged me<\/strong>. I think an instrumental album inspired by my time here is already taking shape.<\/em>” – Alon Peretz

“My experience at La Maison de Beaumont artist residency was something incredibly special for so many reasons. This was my first time participating in an artist residency and the location was nothing short of magical<\/strong>. I love French culture and had always wanted to visit the south of France, so this was the ideal scenario for me. I came to the residency without any ideas or plans for what I was going to create because I wanted my inspiration to come entirely from my environment. It\u2019s amazing how such a small village can easily inspire so many ideas and in a variety of ways between all the different residents. I loved getting to know the other artists during my stay and seeing their beautiful work unfold<\/strong>. And I\u2019d be remiss if I didn\u2019t mention all the cats! So, so many cats! “The opportunity of an immersion that slows time and clarifies place, is essential for the creative process.<\/strong> My residency at La Maison de Beaumont was steeped in a rich visual and cultural exploration. Discovering the little village of Beaumont de Pertuis and the surrounding Luberon landscape, in the company of five other artists, seeking the same creative nourishment, provided great inspiration. Works included small studies of form in gouache paint, to constructing a large scale wall panel of papers where I could render the imposing hills of the Luberon through short strokes of charcoal. “It\u2019s hard to put into words just how important this residency was for my art practice<\/strong>. I\u2019m a newly full-time artist and I was looking for a residency that would help me develop a daily art practice and allow me the time and space to explore new methods of painting. The goal of my 6-week stay at La Maison de Beaumont was just to create one painting per day. I ended up with over forty watercolors to show in a small exhibition at the end of my stay. Village life is a stark and welcome contrast to life back home in Chicago. I loved getting to know so many other artists from all over the world<\/strong> who I can now call friends, as well as interacting with the locals and practicing my French. It was just the experience I needed to get my culinary creative juices flowing. Impossible not to feel so inspired by all of the stunning local ingredients!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The artists I met quickly became good friends and I\u2019m so thankful to have been able to join the program for a week! Also, a big shout out to staff who were able to help with anything. We will both miss this place very much and already each day is tinged with sadness. Debbie Daniels is a self taught oil painter who has been painting for nearly four decades. She is a member of the Oil Painters of America<\/strong>, Women Artists of the West, and a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She has been in numerous solo and group exhibitions. She has been published on the cover of the American Society of Marine Artists<\/strong> (summer 2022), in Southwest Art magazine (Dec. 2017) and Northlight Books, Strokes of Genius, Best of Drawing. Paul Hemp, inspired by “A Year in Provence<\/strong>” from Peter Mayle, gifted himself two months in the Luberon as a retirement present, immersing himself in village life in Beaumont-de-Pertuis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike the region\u2019s tourist-heavy destinations, Beaumont offered an authentic experience<\/strong>, where he formed connections with locals and embraced the daily rhythm of the village. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From exploring medieval ruins <\/strong>and ochre quarries to uncovering hidden hermit caves<\/strong>, Hemp found himself drawn to the region\u2019s deep history and breathtaking landscapes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

His time in Provence became less about sightseeing and more about being present,<\/strong> ultimately leaving with a profound appreciation for the area’s enduring charm<\/strong> and a certainty that he would return.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
